ICAP represents CASA, Inc. in its challenge to U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security’s unlawful attempt to terminate the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designations for Afghanistan and Cameroon. Originally granted for each country in 2022 due to armed conflict and human rights abuses there, TPS allows thousands of individuals to live and work lawfully in the U.S.
On behalf of CASA and its Afghan and Cameroonian members, the lawsuit argues that the federal government’s decision to rescind these protections violated federal statutory procedures and is driven by unconstitutional racial animus. The suit seeks to block this discriminatory action and ensure Afghan and Cameroonian TPS holders are not forced back into life-threatening conditions. The case is currently pending in district court.
